Purpose

The Board recognizes that meaningful parent and family engagement contributes to the achievement of state academic standards by students participating in Title I programs. This policy, developed in collaboration with and agreed to by parent/guardian and family members, describes how parent and family members will be engaged at the school level. The following parent and family engagement guidelines apply to students participating in the Title I program:

1. Each student’s parent/guardian shall be notified in a timely manner that the student has been selected to participate in the Title I program.

Parents/Guardians will be informed of the learning goals for their child.
Provide parents/guardians with a home/school compact. Parents/Guardians should sign and return the compact to their child’s school.
Parent/Guardian will be provided with timely updates on their student’s progress through a variety of communication tools (phone, email, Seesaw, etc).

2. Establish conferences with individual teachers and parents/guardians, as necessary.

An invitation should be extended to parent/guardian to attend Parent/Teacher conferences with Title I Interventionist during scheduled classroom conference days built into the Mechanicsburg Area School District calendar.
Parents/Guardians are invited to observe Title I Intervention instruction. Such arrangements should be scheduled through the building principal and Title I Interventionist.
Meaningful, two-way communication between the district staff and parent/guardian will be ongoing.

3. Provide materials and suggestions to parents/guardians to help them promote the education of their children at home.

4. Convene an annual public meeting to which all parents/guardians of eligible students must be invited. Discuss with those parents/guardians the program and activities provided with Title I funding. The meeting will be held at flexible times in both the morning and evening.

5. Convene an annual meeting of the District Title I Parent Advisory Council. The Council will be composed of a parent/guardian from each building where a Title I Program is established. Administrative representatives to the PAC will include the Director of Academic Program or designee. Title I instructors will also be invited. Agenda of the PAC will include evaluation of the Mechanicsburg Area School District Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy, Home/School Compact and recommendations for the Title I plan. The meeting will be held at flexible times in both the morning and evening.

6. Parent/Guardian notification will be forwarded in a family’s native language when appropriate. (Language Line)

7. Parent/Guardian/Guardians are surveyed annually regarding the Title I/Intervention Program. (Parent/Guardian Survey)

8. To the extent feasible and appropriate, the school will integrate parent involvement programs and activities with other Federal, State, and local programs. Communication about these activities will occur through regular school newsletters.
