Counselor's Corner

My name is Lisa Mandia and I am the School Counselor at Broad Street Elementary School!

This is my seventh year in the Mechanicsburg Area School District.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh and my Master’s degree from Messiah College in School Counseling. I am also a doctoral candidate at Regent University in their Counselor Education and Supervision Program. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a licensed School Counselor for grades K-12.

As a school counselor, my job is to help your students develop in all areas, including academic, career and social/emotional. I teach lessons on a variety of topics from listening skills to growth mindset. I look forward to communicating and collaborating with you to work toward our common goal of student success.

I can be reached by e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at 717-691-3328.

Celebrations Around the World

In years past, we have taken the time to celebrate different traditions and diverse cultures through our Celebrations Around the World. This year each grade level is going to participate in different ways, from morning meetings with read alouds to fun crafts and activities, each class will be taking their own approach to supporting students in developing their knowledge and understanding about different traditions. Some of the holidays we have showcased in the past included Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Christmas in Mexico, and Chinese New Year.  Check out EPIC for more resources on different celebrations!

November - NED's Mindset Mission Assembly

As you know, we recently hosted an all-school livestream event called “NED’s Mindset Mission.” We trust your student was encouraged by the show’s message about having a positive Mindset for learning and life!

Mindset Mission yo-yos are still available for purchase at school to support the free show and message. If your student has already purchased a yo-yo, here is a video to help them get off to a good start with proper string length adjustment https://www.thenedshows.com/string-adjusting

Additionally, there are resources from the Mindset Mission website that you can use at home. Below are the Parent Encouragement Notes If you'd like additional resources, they are available on the website http://www.mindsetmission.com/parents.html

Don’t forget to ask your student what they learned in the show about having a growth mindset from YET the Yeti, Captain Kindly and during NED’s visit on the spaceship!

A Big "Thank you!" to Hops Kids

Hops and Barley in Mechanicsburg has a philanthropic organization called Hops Kids that makes donations to local schools so they can purchase resources for supporting students. They donated funds to Broad Street and other Mechanicsburg Area Schools so that we could purchase Social and Emotional Learning Resources for teachers to use with students.
