What does a School Counselor do?
School Counselors support students in three different areas: academic, career, and social/emotional development. I work to support families and students through the following actions:
Academic:
- Managing 504 Plans
- Offering study skills and organizational skills supports individually and with small groups
- Collaborating with teachers
- Suggesting accommodations for student success
Career:
- Inviting guests with different careers ("Future You Day")
- Providing classroom lessons on skills, interests, and careers
- Encouraging students to make connections to what they are learning now and their futures
Social/Emotional:
- Meeting with students individually and in small groups to help them develop skills and knowledge
- Conducting regular classroom lessons
- Collaborating with families, teachers, principals, and community resources
- Working with new students to help them become acclimated to our school
