❄️ WEATHER ALERT // Mechanicsburg Area School District will be CLOSED on Monday, January 26, 2026. This will be a traditional snow day with no makeup day needed. We will continue to monitor forecasts and road conditions for Tuesday and will communicate with staff and families if there is a need to alter the schedule for the day.

💙 Please help us give a special shoutout to our in-house maintenance crews and all crews across our municipalities who are working tirelessly to keep our roads clear and safe.

Stay warm, dry, and safe, Wildcats!

❄️ A BLAST FROM THE PAST // This photo comes straight from our 2016 Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School yearbook, captured during a January snowstorm that many in our community still remember well. Fast forward ten years… and it sounds like winter is ready for a repeat performance this weekend.

Here’s to warm coats, hot cocoa, and a little Wildcat winter nostalgia.

📚🏀 OH, THE BOOKS WE WILL GIVE! // Shoutout to Wildcat Teacher and Basketball Coach Steven Laudenslager, who made a special, early-morning appearance on WGAL today to help kick off the fun around our Slam Dunks and Storybooks Dr. Seuss Book Challenge — and the pages are turning in the best way. He stood alongside his brother, who's leading the challenge in neighboring West Shore SD. Now it’s your turn to join the story. Bring a NEW book (that’s the rule, not a riddle 😉) to help spread some Seuss-style joy to patients at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital: 🏀 Tonight at the girls basketball game at Cedar Cliff 🏀 Tomorrow at the boys basketball game at Mechanicsburg Area High School 📌 A quick note from the Cat in the Hat: all donated books must be new. So grab a book, pack the gym, cheer loud, and help us turn baskets into bookmarks and points into pages. Because when Wildcats give back, oh, the places books can go. 💜📖

🏀📚 SLAM DUNKS and STORYBOOKS // Our Wildcats are taking on the Cedar Cliff Colts in a friendly Slam Dunks and Storybooks competition — and we need your help to score big for a great cause. If you’re able, please consider donating (and sharing this post!) a NEW Dr. Seuss book. Every book collected will be donated to Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.

Book donations can be dropped off at the MASH main office now through January 20, 2026, or brought to the January 20 or 21, 2026, games. As a thank-you, all donors will receive a coupon for a free hot dog, redeemable at the concession stand during either of those gamedays.

To get you in the spirit, here’s a little Dr. Seuss inspired writing … 💜📖

It’s game time and story time, all rolled into one,
Oh, the books we’ll collect as the kindness will grow!

The goal is simple, the cause is grand,
To put Green Eggs and Ham in every child’s hand.

Each book you donate helps spread some cheer,
To kids at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital this year.

Drop off your new books at the MASH main office door,
Or bring them January 20 and 21 as our Wildcats hit the floor.

Let’s fill up those shelves with stories galore,
For the children who need them—let’s open the door.

🚓💙 LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY // Today (and every day!), we’re grateful for the strong partnerships we share with law enforcement across our community. Their presence in our schools goes beyond safety—it’s about connection, trust, and meaningful relationships with our students and staff.

A special thank you to Officer Mark, our District Resource Officer, whose steady presence and genuine care help our Wildcats feel supported and safe. From morning fist bumps and catch on the playground to lunchtime check-ins and hallway conversations, these moments matter.

Thank you to all of our law enforcement partners for being an important part of the Wildcat community. Today we celebrate you. Every day we appreciate you.

🧦 HEY SETH AND COACH, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // Two moments. One shared commitment to our Wildcats. We’re proud to recognize Dave Heckard, LEARN Teacher and Head Football Coach, and Seth Pehanich, Athletic Director, for the ways they show up for students — often when no one is watching.

While Coach Heckard’s teams find success on the field, his impact off the field means even more. After the final game of the season, he took time for a quiet, encouraging walk with one of the team’s backups — a powerful moment of care, character building, and connection that speaks volumes about who he is as an educator and coach.

And when the football staff accidentally left their headsets behind before an away game, Seth didn’t hesitate. He jumped in the car, drove more than an hour round trip, and arrived just in time as the final note of the anthem played, ensuring our team had what they needed to succeed.

Different roles. The same heart for students. Dave and Seth, your dedication truly Knocked Our Socks Off.

🎵 MUSIC THAT CONNECTS COMMUNITY // This holiday season, the Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School Chamber Ensemble shared the gift of music throughout our community, performing at the “Light Up the Night” celebration at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, The Woods at Cedar Run, and Messiah Lifeways.

Throughout November, students prepared 45 minutes of holiday music, bringing warmth, joy, and meaningful connections to audiences of all ages. Each performance was a reminder of how music has the power to bring people together and strengthen the bonds between our schools and the community we’re proud to serve.

We’re grateful for the opportunities that allow our Wildcats to connect, give back, and spread a little extra holiday cheer along the way.

🎁 💜 A TRADITION OF GIVING // For more than a decade, Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School Student Council has proudly sponsored a family through Operation Wildcat’s Project Legacy.

Earlier this month, Student Council members thoughtfully shopped for gifts, and last week, they gathered for their annual holiday party to carefully wrap each one before delivery. Every gift was wrapped with intention, kindness, and care.

This long-standing tradition is a beautiful reflection of who our Wildcats are — compassionate, generous, and committed to supporting one another and our community.

🎵 MUSIC THAT MOVED THE ROOM // MASH senior Marabeth Duggan recently delivered a stunning soprano solo during a special concert with the Central Pennsylvania Symphony, performing “Silent Night” in Dr. Leo Nester’s arrangement alongside Maestro Stephen Czarkowski on solo ’cello and the CPS string orchestra.

Equally impressive was the MASH Concert Chorale, led by Gordon Kaslusky, which joined the symphony for two pieces and then took the spotlight with three performances of their own.

From soloist to ensemble, our Wildcats represented the very best of musical excellence and collaboration.

🔌🧠 FUTURE-FOCUSED WILDCATS AT WORK // MASH students recently stepped into real-world career experiences through a variety of career exploration opportunities. Some explored how physical therapists use neuromuscular electrical stimulators at Central Penn College’s Health Services career exploration event, while others successfully wired a three-way electrical switch board at a career event hosted by the Independent Electrical Contractors.

These real-world experiences are just a snapshot of the many career exploration opportunities helping our future focused Wildcats discover interests, build skills, and imagine what’s next. 💜

📸 Shoutout to Jeff Luttermoser, MASH Graduation Project Coordinator and Internships & Cooperative Education Supervisor, for capturing these moments in action.

🎉 UPDATE: SHE'S PRINCETON-BOUND // We recently introduced you to Chelsea Guan, a MASH Senior who was named a 2025 QuestBridge National College Match Finalist. WE'VE GOT AN AMAZING UPDATE! Chelsea got word that she has officially matched through the program — earning a full four-year scholarship to Princeton University! 🐾➡️🐯

QuestBridge connects outstanding students with life-changing educational opportunities at some of the nation’s top colleges, and Chelsea truly shines. At MASH, she’s a leader in every way — co-captain of Speech & Debate, a contributor to the school newspaper, a talented violinist, and a dedicated Link Leader supporting our younger Wildcats.

We are so proud of her incredible accomplishment and can’t wait to watch her continue to soar as a future Tiger. 📚

🎻 A NOTEWORTHY MOMENT // Nineteen MASH orchestra students recently took the stage at the Cumberland County Honors Orchestra Festival at Shippensburg Area Senior High School.

Our talented Wildcats joined musicians from across the county to learn, rehearse, and perform under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Timothy Dixon from Messiah University. The festival was a meaningful day of collaboration, new friendships, shared memories, and truly fantastic music.

Bravo to our Wildcats for representing MASH with talent and pride! 🎶
